THIS WEEK’S RECAP…
Superstar of the Week: Takuma Sato
On Sunday at the Grand Prix of Long Beach, Takuma Sato became the first Japanese driver to win an IndyCar Series event when Sato led 50 laps and scored his first career victory on the famed Streets of Long Beach. The victory, Sato’s first, was also the first time AJ Foyt Enterprises went to Victory Lane in 11 years.
Sato, one of the most popular drivers in open-wheel racing, finally visited Victory Lane after multiple near victories over the last two seasons. Most notably, Sato crashed while passing Dario Franchitti for the lead in Turn One during last season’s Indianapolis 500. While many viewed that move as overly aggressive, it impressed Foyt enough to hire Sato when he lost his seat at Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing at the conclusion of last season. Three races into their new partnership and both find themselves in Victory Lane.
Jerk of the Week: Reese Witherspoon
The Look of Shame. |
“Do you know my name? You’re about to find out who I am. You’re going to be on national news.”
I know I was not alone in being surprised by Sunday’s news that actress Reese Witherspoon was arrested in Georgia for disorderly conduct after playing the “Do You Know Who I Am” card as a Georgia State Police officer arrested her husband, Jim Toth, for DUI outside Atlanta.
For years, Witherspoon has been one of Hollywood’s most respected celebrities. In an industry filled with stars believing in the notion that “any attention is good attention,” many have outshined Witherspoon and her wholesome, uncontroversial, rather boring persona. This move was certainly the kind of news expected from a Lindsay Lohan, Kim Kardashian, or Paris Hilton. It was definitely uncharacteristic of Witherspoon to play the Diva Card, as the mugshot shows, unsuccessfully.
Babe of the Week: Erin Andrews (with glasses)
"Hi, I'm Erin. Ms. Andrews if you're naughty." |
Erin Andrews is leaving the ranks of people with poor eyesight at the end of the week after tweeting that she was going to have Lasik eye surgery . So, as a glasses wearer, I pay respect to the spectacled losing a sexy member of the group. I just hope, for her boyfriend’s sake, she will keep a pair of glasses strictly for “naughty time.”
